Nurses play a key role in the treatment of tuberculosis (TB): during the entire duration of therapy, which can last up to two years, they are the ones who give patients prescribed medications daily, monitor how they take all the pills, and closely monitor side effects. The time and care that nurses devote to each patient can actually save their lives: by warning doctors when patients miss treatment or tolerate it poorly, or by helping to organize financial, social and psychological assistance for those in need, they help each patient to defeat tuberculosis.

Yryskul, a nurse of the tub.office in Novopavlovka, shows special dedication to her work and patients. "Each patient needs at least thirty minutes a day. Patients do not just need to be given pills: they need to be talked to, persuaded and explained so that they drink medicine for these two years." Treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis is particularly long and complex, and in order for it to be successful, it must be taken every day. That's where nurses come in, helping patients win this battle.
