WHO has provided Kyrgyzstan with personal protective equipment to combat COVID-19

Today, on July 16, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO), as part of measures to respond to COVID-19 in the Kyrgyz Republic, handed over personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Personal protective equipment is provided through the WHO supply line. The batch of PPE includes 46,200 face shields, 14,600 goggles, 57,000 smocks, 150,000 KN95 respiratory masks. The total cost of humanitarian aid is 508,078.24 US dollars.

These personal protective equipment will ensure the safe and effective operation of health workers throughout the country. These funds were provided at the request of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic to support efforts to respond to COVID-19. The Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic plans to distribute PPE to more than twenty hospitals across the country.

"Today, WHO is transferring over 10 tons of personal protective equipment to the Ministry of Health to support the health system, especially medical workers working on the front line," said Dr. Tasnim Atatra, Coordinator of the WHO Center for Health Emergencies in Central Asia and the current WHO representative in Kyrgyzstan. "WHO has a strong relationship with the Ministry of Health and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, and WHO will continue to provide technical support and recommendations."
