In accordance with the order of the Ministry of Health on the temporary conversion of medical inpatient facilities, one of the first specialized departments for patients with COVID-19 was established at the National Center of Phthisiology (NCF). This decision was made due to the fact that the NCF, by its specifics, has extensive experience working with an infectious disease – tuberculosis. "We have prepared a building isolated from the main building in compliance with all necessary infection control measures," says the director of the Bolot center Maikanaev.
"Patients will go up by a separate entrance from the street, and our employees will enter from another entrance. This is the most important requirement of infection control, - says the head of the department Elena Zhdanova. - Wards for severe patients are separated from wards where patients with a milder course of the disease will be located. There is an intensive care unit for two intensive care beds with a ventilator and another ward for severe patients who will be monitored by intensive care doctors."
In total, the specialized department is ready to accept 38 patients. The wards have everything you need for a long isolated stay: a separate bathroom, refrigerator, TV. The food will be stored in disposable dishes, which are then disposed of. And, of course, hygiene products: antiseptics, soap, paper disposable towels.

Conditions are created not only for patients, but also for medical workers who will be in the department both on shift and in quarantine after it. All of them have already been trained on how to ensure their safety and the safety of their colleagues when working with patients with coronavirus in this department. And first of all, how to use personal protective equipment. Also, in order to protect personnel from the so-called "professional burnout" associated with working in conditions of long-term isolation, psychological support classes were conducted with the involvement of professional psychologists.
