Allowance "Can the UN protect human rights?"
The informal CEDAW Coalition, with the support of the Soros Foundation-Kyrgyzstan published the Manual "Can the UN protect human rights?" for example, the CEDAW Convention. The manual is designed for meetings with communities - LGBT, people living with HIV, people who use drugs and sex workers in the field or offices.
Our efforts to improve the situation of our communities need support in the first place, that more people from the community believed in their ability to change the situation.
Members of the coalition together have developed a Handbook during the year, the process included several stages:
- Collect ideas: how to start a conversation about the international mechanisms for the protection of people who have no previous experience working or volunteering in NGOs.
- Field testing of the draft in Bishkek and in 2 regions of the country helped to understand how the allowance works in practice
- Consultations within the coalition helped make the guide applicable for carrying out thematic sessions in any of our communities, and the allowance provides the opportunity to improve the understanding and acceptance of the communities to each other.
The manual is built on a series of consistent questions, discussing which group of participants is gradually coming to major conclusions about their ability to protect and promote human rights.
