The Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, together with the USAID Project "Cure Tuberculosis" and the National Center for Phthisiology at the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic (NCF), from March 1 to September 30, 2022, announce a competition among representatives of the mass media (mass media) for the best coverage of topics related to tuberculosis (TB) and contributing to reducing stigma and discrimination and improving support for people affected by TB, using models of positive behavior of people with TB, their close environment, community members, health workers, representatives of local governments.


The main purpose of the competition is to attract public attention through the media to topical issues related to TB in general and, first of all, to create a favorable information environment for:

- changing public attitudes towards people affected by TB to reduce stigma and discrimination and improve support for TB patients,
- encouraging people with suspected TB to contact a healthcare organization early for examination and completion of treatment,
- increasing adherence to treatment of TB patients,
- reducing the destructive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the TB situation in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic (MZKR), together with the USAID project "Cure Tuberculosis", implemented by JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. and the National Center for Phthisiology at the MZKR (NCF), announce a competition among representatives of the mass media (mass media) for the best coverage of topics related to tuberculosis (TB), using models of positive behavior of people with TB, their close environment, community members, health workers, representatives of local governments.

  1. Goals and objectives of the competition

Objective: To attract public attention through the media to topical issues related to TB in general and, first of all, to create a favorable information environment for:

-changing public attitudes towards people affected by TB to reduce stigma and discrimination and improve support for TB patients,

- encouraging people with suspected TB to contact a healthcare organization early for examination and completion of treatment,

- повышения приверженности к лечению пациентов с ТБ,

-reducing the destructive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the TB situation in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Tasks:

  • increasing the knowledge of the population about TB and increasing the audience informed about TB;
  • attracting the attention of journalists to the topic of TB;
  • an increase in the number of journalists in their professional activities who turn to in-depth and comprehensive coverage of the topic of TB;
  • increasing the number of high-quality information materials on TB in the media.

2. The order of the competition

2.1. The author's works submitted for the competition can be in Kyrgyz and Russian and must be broadcast on TV/radio, posted on Internet information resources, published in print media in the period from March 1 to September 30, 2022. All competitive works are provided in electronic, printed formats.

2.2. The application form for participation in the competition is attached to this Regulation (see Appendix 1).

2.3. The deadline for accepting competitive works is during the entire period of the competition and until October 10, 2022 inclusive.

3. Contest nominations

One competitive material can be submitted to the competition in only one nomination. The competition is held in the following categories:

1. best work on television,

2. best work on the radio,

3. the best work in Internet resources,

4. the best work in print publications.

4. Criteria for the evaluation of competitive works

The contest entries will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

1. compliance with the topic, relevance and depth of disclosure of the topic,

2. reliability, correctness of the submission of information about TB,

3. an interesting and original form of presentation of the material (priority is given to works involving people affected by tuberculosis),

4. consideration of the interests of the heroes of the material and respect for their rights, obtaining the information consent of the heroes (see the sample of information consent in Appendix 2).

5. The jury of the competition

To evaluate the competitive works, a Jury is formed, which consists of representatives of the Ministry of Health, the NCF, the Republican Center for Health Promotion and Mass Communication (RCUZiMC), civil society organizations, the USAID Project "Cure Tuberculosis", and other interested partners.

6. Copyright

The participant who submitted this work to the competition is responsible for compliance with the copyright of the work participating in the competition. By submitting their work to the competition, the authors automatically give the right to the organizers of the competition to use the submitted material for non-commercial purposes (posting on the Internet, in printed publications, on exhibition stands, accounting documents, etc.).

7. Prizes and awards

7.1. Awarding of the winners of the contest will be timed to the Day of Information and Press of Kyrgyzstan - November 7.

7.2. ВThe winners of each nomination are determined in accordance with the collective decision of the Jury members. The prize fund is formed with the financial support of the USAID Project "Cure Tuberculosis".

7.3.The jury has the right to establish additional competitive nominations.
