Information on the implementation of the Global Fund grant

The Kyrgyz Republic submitted a country application for additional funding for strengthening the health system (HHS) to counter COVID-19 to the Global Fund (GF), was approved by the GF on July 11, 2021 and allocated $6,609,697 to stabilize the situation related to COVID-19 in the Kyrgyz Republic. The organization implementing this grant is the UNDP/GF in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Of the total grant amount for the purchase of medical equipment, medical devices, personal protective equipment, disinfectants amount to about 5,900,000 US dollars.

The amount of USD 709697 is allocated for the program activities of the project.

The terms of the grant are provided for the period from 01.01.2021 to 31.12.2023 (inclusive). The project should be implemented as soon as possible and 50% of all funds should be disbursed within 2021.

The main indicator according to this project is the purchase of medical equipment for hospitals, healthcare organizations providing primary health care, laboratory equipment and preparations for the diagnosis of COVID (PCR), including express tests, medical devices, personal protective equipment, equipment for determining antibiotic sensitivity for the Republican Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital, disinfectants, as well as the software part, which includes training, training seminars for employees of medical institutions and the civil sector, support of experts.

Since the beginning of August this year, measures have been taken to develop financial resources: discussing the application with recipients, providing them to UNDP/GF with technical specifications, procurement processes are carried out for many items according to the procurement plan. As of today, diagnostic reagents and cartridges with consumables for COVID diagnostics have been purchased and provided to recipients: the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, the State Penitentiary Service, the National Center for Phthisiology, the Republican AIDS Center. The procurement process of medical equipment, medical devices and personal protective equipment has been launched. As part of the program part: 2 trainings were held to increase the capacity of HIV consultants on adherence to ARV therapy, motivational counseling in the cities of Bishkek and Osh.
