The last patients were discharged from the specialized department opened at the National Center of Phthisiology during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since May, more than 300 people have been treated in this department, designed for 38 beds, most of whom were admitted here in serious condition. Now the department will be prepared for its original purpose, says the acting director. head physician Konushbek Sakmamatov: "After the discharge of the last patients in this department, we will carry out a thorough cleaning, disinfect everything and then, with the permission of the Ministry of Health, we will begin our previous work - the reception and treatment of patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis."

The doors for the last patients were closed by the eighth team of medical workers – doctors and nurses. They also had to take care of a lot of serious patients. The head of the brigade, Rahat Zhumalieva, and the phthisiologist Gulzat Alymkulova recall the story of one of them: "Zhenisha was brought to us with bilateral pneumonia, which was very difficult. He couldn't breathe, hemoptysis, blood pressure under 200. Just reduce the pressure – in an hour or two it is high again. We have been fighting for his life with the whole brigade for more than a week and now we are discharged in good health."

The average medical staff of the department also breathed a sigh of relief, who in these difficult conditions ensured the smooth operation of their colleagues in the red zone. "It was very hard to work," recalls the senior nurse of the department Burmakan Shadybekova. - Every day disinfection, washing, ironing of medical suits that were worn under PPE. Sometimes there was no water, the girls had to wash by hand in the yard. Another hard job is to take out and dispose of medical waste. At the peak of the pandemic, half a car of waste was exported per day. All this was done by our medical workers and they also worked in protective suits."

Despite the fact that all their tests came out well, the members of the eighth brigade, like their predecessors, will go on a two–week self-isolation - these are the rules of infection control. And for a long time they will remember their most important reward for a medic – the words of gratitude of patients. In the person of the staff of the National Center of Phthisiology, Nuriya Atantayeva, who cured her of a serious illness, conveys with undisguised excitement her great gratitude and gratitude to all medical workers of Kyrgyzstan: "May we have more people in white coats and, most importantly, may they never get sick themselves!".
