World AIDS Day

Всемирный день борьбы со СПИДом

THE CRUCIAL ROLE OF COMMUNITIES

The theme of this year's World AIDS Day is "Communities are making a difference."

The solemn event in honor of World AIDS Day, which will be held on December 1, 2019, will provide an opportunity to recognize the key role that communities have played and continue to play in the AIDS response at the international, national and local levels.

Communities contribute to the fight against AIDS in various ways. Their leadership and information and campaigning activities ensure maximum relevance and validity of counteraction measures, focusing on the needs of people and providing assistance to all those in need. Communities include peer mentor groups, networks of people living with or affected by HIV, such as gay men and other men who have sex with men, intravenous drug users and sex workers, women and youth, counselors, public health workers, home service providers, community organizations and people's activists.

World AIDS Day allows us to once again emphasize the crucial role of communities in a difficult period when the reduction of funding and the decline in the influence of civil society threaten the stability of the provision of services and information activities. Today, it is extremely necessary to mobilize communities, which will eliminate barriers to the provision of services by communities, including restrictions on registration and the absence of a social order procedure. The important function of awareness-raising communities is more important today than ever; It will keep the AIDS problem on the political agenda, ensure the protection of human rights and maintain control over the activities of decision makers and implementers.
