Bishkek signed Paris Declaration calling to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic by 2030

Today, July 10, 2019, the Mayor's office of Bishkek city has signed the Paris Declaration, which suggests that we are at a crucial stage in the AIDS response. At the ceremony of the signing of the Declaration was attended by representatives of (boundary) state, nongovernmental and international sectors. The ceremony was organized by non-governmental organization AFEW Kyrgyzstan.

Bishkek became the second city in Central Asia, the municipality which joined the most important call to end the AIDS epidemic in major cities by 2030. Earlier, in 2017, a Declaration signed in the city of Almaty. Speakers at the ceremony from the public sector noted the importance of this step and becoming part of a global movement that reinforces the political commitment of the Kyrgyz Republic in the AIDS response. She also noted the importance of working with internal and external migrant (kami), drawing attention to the increasing sexual transmission of HIV and key populations.

It should be noted, the world has a real opportunity to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030, thanks to the political will and commitment, civic and social activity, and scientific achievements. Large cities are traditionally the accumulation of active economic, socio-cultural and political life. They are at the forefront of the AIDS response. At the moment, cities have a unique opportunity to lead an initiative to accelerate action to achieve the 90-90-90 targets by 2020.
