In Bishkek opened a Teen center for the prevention of substance use

March 19, AFEW-Kyrgyzstan jointly with the State Agency of youth Affairs, physical culture and sports opened a Teen center for the prevention of use of psychoactive substances (surfactants).

The event was attended by the Deputy Director of the State Agency of youth Affairs, physical culture and sports Mirlan Paranov, project Manager, AFEW Kyrgyzstan Chinara Imankulova, the staff of the Centre, the city hall of Bishkek, police Department of Bishkek, NGOs, social workers of regional administrations and others.

"With the support of AFEW Kyrgyzstan in the teen center began working psychologist and a social worker who will be able to provide free consultations to adolescents and their parents, to redirect them to other partner organizations," – said Mirlan Paranov during his speech.

During the opening the guests were shown the youth center and meet its staff. Chinara Imankulova said that the teen center was created to provide guests of the centre for alternative leisure activities. "The center's specialists will provide support to all teenagers, especially those who find themselves in difficult situations. In the framework of the project “Bridging the gaps: health and rights for key populations” we plan to address prevention of substance use among youth. Here we have games, mugs, we agree with other organizations on holding interesting sessions and workshops for our visitors. Want the children a space where you can relax, talk with peers and get professional support," said Chinara Imankulova.

Also, the center will provide resource support to enhance the capacity of psychologists, social workers and teachers, doctors and employees of inspection on Affairs of minors.

The participants spoke about the needs of the city in such a center. During discussions, they shared the problems of teenagers with whom they meet at work, has developed a plat of cooperation and offered their ideas.
