Center participation and development (СPD) and Truth Hounds Georgia with the support of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Georgia, the National endowment for democracy and the Eurasia program of the Open Society Foundation announced a set of defenders to participate in the program of Tbilisi city shelter.

Applications will be accepted until 25 February 2019.

The program of Tbilisi city shelter is aimed at providing opportunities to move to a safe place (Tbilisi, Georgia), professional development and psychological rehabilitation of human rights defenders and aims to reduce the risks and help defenders to leave for a while an unsafe environment. The program is designed to provide a 3-month course, during which the defender is provided housing in a safe place, opportunities for education and development of skills and acquisition of new professional contacts, if necessary, he/she provided psychological and medical assistance.
In particular, the program includes the following components:

∙ Training: safety, advocacy, communications, writing projects (topics may vary according to the preferences of participants)
∙ Training programs: international humanitarian law, international instruments for the protection of human rights
* Visibity to Georgian NGOs to exchange experiences
* Development skills: driving lessons, English language courses
∙ Public speaking, interviews, communication with colleagues from other countries in the region and EU countries

At the end of the program it is expected that participants will be able to return to their country.
Who can participate in the program:

1. Applications will be accepted from defenders in the broad sense of the term ( including, lawyers, employees of public organizations, journalists, whose professional activity is connected with human rights).
2. The best defender in the Shelter should help to overcome risks associated with security of human rights defender and/or prevent burnout, trauma.
3. The human rights activist should work in one of the following countries: Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Belarus, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Ukraine.
4. The advocate should be ready/willing to participate in educational activities provided by the program.
5. The advocate should be ready/willing to participate in the three-month program on their own. Only in exceptional cases the participation of a defender in the program along with immediate family members.
